OS Lacrosse gets press; First 2021 Captain Announced.
Team,
I really thought we’d be further along in getting back to a point we could strap on the helmets and play some summer ball. Boys lacrosse is rated “high risk” and the CIAC is still saying no dice. Here are some notes of things I am thinking about:
Small groups throwing the ball around outside, that’s OK to do.
Mens summer league? 18ish years old and willing to drive to Orange on Sunday mornings? Good group of guys, must have US lacrosse membership. Pat is a friend of mine who runs it and coach at East Haven, so represent us well. More here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/139733062710861/
Winter (way to early to think about winter ball, right? Nope.). I am chasing down a lead to get something local going with Valley.
Wallball. Wallball Wallball. If you want to know what can I do that will give me the most impact on my game? It’s wallball.
Got more ideas? Let’s hear them. You can email me here.
Congrats to our many scholastic award winners from the underclassman awards night back in June. I was proud to see more than a few of our teammates called out. Special mention goes to Josh Linder for multiple awards that stuck in my head. Way to go Josh!
Finally for notes, if you have a moment read this nice story on my High School coach passing away. This man was instrumental in my life, and for so many of my lacrosse brothers and sisters on the shoreline. https://www.nhregister.com/sports/article/Connecticut-lacrosse-coaching-icon-Barron-dies-15418148.php
Press
In case you have not been paying attention, OSHS Lacrosse made the papers recently. First up - our 2020 Captain Matt Murphy was named SportsPerson of the Week. Matt’s obviously upped his hair game! Matt, we wish you continued success and luck at Tampa. https://www.zip06.com/profile/20200709/murphy-always-wanted-to-play-lacrosse-for-old-saybrook
Need more? Of course we do! Here’s a piece on many of my hopes for the 2020 season. What should have been the first step in our run to states was cut a bit short. I was disappointed to see many of our players stories not make it to print. If you don’t see your name, know that I offered comments on just about every player and I am sorry it didn’t make the print. https://www.zip06.com/sports/20200629/rams-were-ready-for-improvement-this-year
Captain #1
On to our announcement. After much deliberation, I am pleased to announce our first Captain for the 2021 season: Andrew Souriyamath. This rising Junior goalie is an integral part of our team and will lead our hearts and minds to victory next season. Andrew is a great example of how if you want something bad enough and are willing to work to get it - anything is possible. I have confidence in Andrew’s ability to lead and look forward to what the team will learn from him. Please join me in reaching out to Andrew with your congratulations, ideas and comments. Congratulations Andrew!
Well, that’s it for me.
