Senior Spotlight: Ed Fernandes. Plus workouts to keep you in shape

In another universe, today would have been our first game vs Ledyard-Griswold. The first game of the season usually fills me with three things:

  • Hope

  • Nervousness - did I prepare you boys enough? Did we focus on the right things? Did I take it too easy/work you too hard?

  • And then, around mid-day, a war-like zen fills me. I am ready for battle, ready with an inspirational pre-game thought and ready to watch you guys amaze both the other team and me.

Words can’t explain how much I miss this routine. I hope we can get back to it soon- but don’t be lulled into a “it’s never gonna happen” mentality. I’ve been working on my shot on my backyard goal. I’ve built a few more sticks. And I’ve been running.

Today’s senior spotlight: Ed Fernandes.

Ed is the teammate I want to have. He’s always up, always ready to play and always cheering. I’ve wondered how he keeps his mouthguard in because he talks so much.

Ed’s natural athletic talent isn’t what makes him such a great player, though he’s equally skilled offensively and defensively. Rather, I believe what makes him great is his love for the team. Call it heart, call it excitement but don’t discount it. Ed leads by making sure we all feel his passion, his drive, his spirit. I believe these characteristics make Ed an amazing player.
